I'm new to Volvo and my EX90 is already ordered (not sure of the final delivery date, I think before end of this year) but it seriously made me switch as a Tesla Model X Plaid replacement! Volvo's safety rep and hardware seemed top-notch, but is their software game on point?

Tesla's constant updates and "PC on wheels" approach are super appealing too. Will Volvo keep their EX90 fresh with frequent OTA updates, or will they be like BMW and ditch software support after a few years? Version 1.0 situation worries me a bit.

So here's my dilemma is with Tesla Model X Plaid being around for a while with proven EV SUV vs Volvo EX90's brand new platform and unproven software updates.

I'm still waiting for my Volvo that I ordered last year but anyone out there with Volvo software experience when they release new model? Can they keep up with Tesla?

Volvo’s EX90 should get regular software updates, but yeah, Tesla’s constant updates definitely set a high bar. It’s a new platform, so there’s some uncertainty, but Volvo’s focus on tech is promising, IMO

As an EX30 owner, I can say that yes, Volvo does make constant updates. Okay, yes. But I can also say that their updates are practically insubstantial or useless. They only fix in each update those small bugs that are not too important or not at all, and that are certainly not what users demand, as you read in those Forums that Volvo ignores. Although they were features included in the specification sheets, Apple CarPlay arrived almost a year later, Android auto is not here and is not expected, and the same can be said about the keyless entry on the phone.

There are irritating things in the software such as the lack of customization in the shortcuts or the complicated access to the fog lights (and in general to the lighting), or the lack of Google Assistant functionality, information on the charging power, and a lot of small and large things that other vehicles of higher and lower price offer and that Volvo seems to ignore.

There are other things, such as sudden braking when overtaking trucks on a curve, that will require more effort, but the easy things, the promised ones that do not require great effort, which we hope will be included at least a year after its launch.

I totally get being cautious about a brand-new platform. Volvo seems super committed to their safety roots, but software's a different game. The fact they delayed the EX90 to refine the system kinda gives me confidence they’re not rushing it out just for headlines. Plus, their recent OTA efforts on other models sound promising, so fingers crossed they keep that same energy here.

Tesla's definitely ahead when it comes to software. They're always coming out with new things and improving stuff really fast.

Volvo's updates probably focus more on making things safe and reliable, not so much on all the fancy stuff Tesla does.

It'll be cool to see how both companies change their software over time.
